Lady Statesmen Shutout MUW For Second Straight Win

Box Score COLUMBUS, Miss. - The Delta State University women's soccer team defeated the Mississippi University for Women 7-0 on Wednesday evening, marking the first time in program history that the Lady Statesmen have opened the season 2-0. 

The eight goals in a single game is third most in DSU history. The all-time record is 11 goals which DSU scored against Alcorn State in 2016 and in 2004. Second most is 10 goals against Robert Morris in 2008.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Delta State had the first chance in the game but Jennifer Lopez's shot went wide in the fifth minute.
  • Diana Okechukwu opened the scoring by converting a penalty kick in the 16th minute.
  • Midfielder Carra Hymel snagged the second goal of the game in the 25th minute.
  • Isabella Wade scored her first career goal in the 29th minute.
  • Right before halftime, Rainey Niles scored her first goal in a DSU uniform to make it 4-0 in the first half.
  • Wade got her second goal just two minutes in the second half to make it 5-0.
  • Mia Ramirez found her way into the scoring column in the 66th minute.
  • Okechukwu scored her second goal of the game in the 72nd minute.
  • In the 87th minute, Jennifer Lopez scored the eighth goal of the game for DSU.
