CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Delta State University men's soccer team dropped its opening game of the 2021 season 3-0 to the Union (Tenn.) University Bulldogs on Friday afternoon. It was the first game in 460 days for the Statesmen.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Statesmen had the first shot of the game in the fourth minute with a shot from Remi Emeriau, but the shot was saved off the crossbar.
- William Valencia had a shot in the seventh minute for Union but Mattis Kloepper had the save.
- Jakob Thorup-Petersen had back-to-back shots but both went wide.
- Union struck first with a point-blank shot from Mats Fredrisken in the 26th minute to take the lead.
- Then, in the 39th minute, Emeriau had another shot but Union's keeper tallied another save.
- Gavin Scott took two early shots in the second half for the Bulldogs but both were saved by Kloepper.
- Thorup-Petersen had another chance in the 51st minute, but the shot went wide.
- Gavin Scott scored for Union on a shot from about 30 yards out in the 61st minute.
- Less than a minute later, AJ Morgado scored another goal for the Bulldogs to give then a 3-0 lead.
- The Statesmen had one more opportunity from Emeriau, but the shot went off the post.

- Union out-shot the Statesmen 14-10 with nine shots on goal, compared to five for the Statesmen.
