Statesmen Fall to UWA on the Road

LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- The Delta State University men's soccer team fell to the University of West Alabama 3-1 at Tiger Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021.

UWA scored the first goal just one minute into the game and didn't relinquish the lead as they handed Delta State its second loss of the season. Joe Elliot scored the lone goal for the Green-and-White.The Tigers won their second straight game to start the 2021 campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Just 1:13 into the game, the Tigers scored their first goal on a strike from Richard Lopez from six yards out.
  • In the 16th minute, UWA attempted a penalty kick from Kyle McLeod, but Mattis Kloepper stepped up and made the save for DSU.
  • Eldi Seiti had the first shot for the Statesmen in the 27th minute that went just wide.
  • In the 28th minute, Liam Condone earned a yellow card for UWA.
  • Then, a minute later, Odin Johansson and Jakob Thorup-Petersen both earned yellow cards for Delta State.
  • UWA earned their second yellow card in the 36th minute by Reda Ikarrain.
  • Vince Stans's goal in the 44th minute to gave UWA a 2-0 halftime lead.
  • Ikarrain made it 3-0 for UWA in the 54th minute.
  • The Statesmen responded with Tom Toulson's first career goal in the 54th minute.
  • In the 78th minute, Kieran Robbins earned a yellow and a red card.
