VICKSBURG, Miss. – The Delta State University Softball team dropped their series opener against Mississippi College on Saturday. A multitude of errors that tallied a total of 5 throughout the game, allowed MC to pull away and earn the 6-2 win.

How It Happened:
- MC took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after a SAC fly by McCall Lee.
- Annemarie Peavy's RBI triple in the bottom of the second extended the Choctaw's lead 3-0. She then scored on an error from the second baseman Taylor Picou.
- In the bottom of the third, a dropped ball by Katelyn Hayman cost the Lady Statesmen two more unearned runs to extend the Lady Choctaws led 5-0.
- In the top of the sixth the Lady Statesmen notched their first run of the game as Jenny Griggers singled up the middle brining Summer Cryder across the plate.
- In the bottom of the sixth the Lady Choctaws tacked on their last run of the game on a muffed throw by Taylor Picou.
- In the top of the seventh, the Lady Statesmen brought in another run tomake it a 6-2 score thanks to a single by Cryder.
In the Circle:
- Olivia Burns (1-3) got the start for Delta State. Burns gave up five runs off seven hits through four innings.
- Brookelyn Sweeney relieved Burns in the bottom of the fifth. Sweeney gave up one run on one hit in two innings.
- Avery Sanders (2-3) received the win for Mississippi College. Sanders gave up two runs off five hits through six and two thirds innings.
Notable:
- Five Lady Statesmen would tally a hit in game one of the series.

- Delta State Softball will be back in action Sunday, Feb. 21st, 2021. The Lady Statesmen will finish out the series against the Lady Choctaws in a doubleheader starting at 1 PM at the Sports Force Complex in Vicksburg.
