VICKSBURG, Miss. -- The Delta State University Lady Statesmen split a Sunday afternoon double header with Mississippi College.
The Lady Statesmen won game one 6-0 before falling 2-1 in game three. In game one,
Lacey Coats earned the win pitching a shutout.
Kailyn Lofton went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in three runs. In game two, a late run scored by MC proved to be the difference as DSU could only manage four hits.

GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- DSU took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first after a single to right field by Kailyn Lofton. The hit drove in Jenny Griggers and Raegan Stafford after they both walked.
- In the top of the third, DSU tallied two more runs to push the lead to 4-0 thanks to a single to third base by Griggers.
- In the top of the fourth, Katelyn Hayman stole home while Summer Cryder stole second to make it 5-0.
- The Lady Statesmen sealed the win in the top of the sixth with a single up the middle by Mary "MC" Sweatt.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Lacey Coats (4-1) earned the win for Delta State. Coats gave up just four hits and no runs in seven innings.
- Avery Barnett (1-2) took the loss for Mississippi College. Barnett gave up four runs off three hits in three innings of work.
- Shelby Carlson relieved Barnett in the fourth frame and gave up two runs on three hits through four innings.
NOTABLES (GM1)
- In three at bats, Lofton tallied three hits and three RBI and added a walk.
- Sweatt had two at bats and hammered out three hits and a single RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lady Statesmen took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth after a double to center field by Julie Scheuermann.
- The Lady Choctaws tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth after Jordan LaFosse hit a home run to left field.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Rayne Minor tacked on the final run of the series after she singled to third base.

- Lacey Coats (4-2) started again for the Green and White and gave up six hits and two runs in six innings.
- Avery Sanders (3-3) earned the win for Mississippi College. Sanders gave up one run off four hits through seven innings.
NOTABLES (GM 2)
- Four Lady Statesmen would tally a hit in the final game of the series.
- Scheuermann would notch the only RBI of the contest for the Green and White.

The Lady Statesmen are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 27 in a doubleheader as they open up at University Field in Cleveland as they host the University of West Georgia in GSC play. Game one will start at 1 p.m. and game two will be played at 3 p.m.
