Statesmen Fall to Mississippi College on Senior Day

Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State University men's soccer team fell to Mississippi College 2-0 at Parker Field-McCool Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 28 on senior day. After a scoreless first half, the Choctaws were able to score twice in the second half for the win.

Before the game, the Statesmen honored their lone senior, Ian Clendenin, who graduates in May with a degree in psychology.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • DSU had the first opportunity of the game in the second minute with a corner kick but could not convert it.
  • The first shot of the game did not come until the 14th minute when Antoine Recizac for MC shot went high.
  • Joshua Davies followed that up for MC with another shot that went high for MC.
  • In the 34th minute, Jakob Thorup-Petersen earned a yellow card.
  • In the 39th minute, Odin Johansson took the first shot of the game for the Statesmen, but it was saved by MC.
  • Right before halftime, Joe Elliot took another shot but it was saved as well by MC.
  • Thorup-Petersen and Clendenin both had back-to-back shots in the first minute of the second half but both were blocked.
  • In the 68th minute, the Choctaws' Pedro Cortes got the opening goal on an assist by Aaron Martin.
  • In the 74th minute, Cortes earned a yellow card for MC.
  • Then Eldi Seiti earned a red card for DSU a few moments later.
  • In the 75th minute, the Choctaws extended their lead on a goal by Antoine Recizac.
  • Elliot earned a yellow card in the 85th minute for the Statesmen.
