PENSACOLA, Fla. -- A tenth inning rally from a 7-4 deficit fell short for the
Delta State University baseball team (2-4, 2-4 GSC) in a 7-6 loss to No. 20/25 University of West Florida (6-3, 6-3 GSC) on Monday at Jim Spooner Field.
Trailing 7-4 in the bottom of the 10th, the Statesmen scored two runs on sac-flies by Jake Barlow and Myles Christian to make it a 7-6 game. Kade Dees hit a hard line drive at the UWF right field to end the rally with the tying run at third.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- West Florida took a 1-0 lead in the first on Dylan Mehennett's RBI single up the middle.
- Donovan Shows delivered an RBI single and Myles Christian walked and scored on a wild pitch to help the Statesmen forge to a 2-1 lead.
- UWF scored two runs in the top of the third to regain a 3-2 lead. Menennett walked with the bases loaded to force in a run with the second run scoring on a Justin Dunnam sacrifice fly to left.
- The Statesmen tied the game 3-3 in the fourth. Christian singled home Blayke Dendy, who had singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
- The score remained tied into the seventh when the Statesmen plated a run to take a 4-3 lead. Hayden White pounded a two-out double down left field line to score pinch runner Will Myers.
- West Florida tied the game, 4-4, when Cullen O'Shea led off with a double and scored on a Dunnam squeeze bunt.
- The Statesmen had the winning run in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth with one out before Joey Wozniak posted a pair of strikeouts to force extra innings.
- West Florida struck for three runs in the top of the 10th to take a 7-4 lead. Matthew Estrada who was placed on second due GSC's extra-inning tiebreaker rule, scored on an O'Shea double followed by a Dunnam RBI single and a Miller Hancock RBI double.
- Kirkland Trahan started the Statesmen half of the 10th at second base. Patrick Hodges and Peyton Faulkner were hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Barlow and Christian followed with sac flies to score Trahan and Faulkner. Dees belted a line drive was caught by the UWF left fielder to end the game with Hodges at third.
ON THE MOUND
- Wozniak (1-0) threw two innings, giving up two runs, one earned, with four strikeouts against two walks to pick up the win for UWF.
- Evan Bynum (0-1) allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits as Delta State's pitcher of record.
- Brenden Case (2) got the final two outs in the 10th to earn the save for UWF.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Statesmen were limited to six hits on the afternoon as UWF grabbed the 2-1 series win.
- White's RBI double in the seventh was the only extra-base hit of the game for the Statesmen.
- Christian led the Statesmen with a two RBI and had singles along with Barlow, Hodges, Shows, and Sargent.
- Dunnam went 2-for-3 with three RBI for UWF.
- Menhennett drove in two runs on pair of hits and O'Shea had a double and a single with one RBI.
