LIVINGSTON, ALA. -- Early foul trouble and turnovers plagued the Delta State University men's basketball team in a 70-53 loss against the University of West Alabama on Friday night at Pruitt Hall.
Michael Motley led the way for the Statesmen with 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Tigers jumped out to an 8-3 lead but a Z'Mari Minter three-pointer drew the Statesmen within one at 9-8 with 14:41 to go in the first half.
- West Alabama then used a 16-6 run to the 5:58 mark of the game's opening 20 minutes to build a 25-14 advantage.
- The Statesmen responded, as a pair of free throws by Airen Brooks and another three-pointer from Minter helped the Statesmen trim the lead to 27-24 with 3:08 to go in the half.
- A Brooks three-point jumper with 58 seconds left in the half made it 29-26 UWA, but the Tigers hit four free throws to take a 33-26 lead at the break.
- A Jaylen Lemons three-pointer and a Brooks layup made it 38-33 West Alabama with 16:38 to play in the game, but that is as close as the Statesmen got.
- Chase Sanders responded for the Tigers with three made field goals from beyond the three-point arc to help UWA build back a 12-point lead with 13:11 to go.
- The Statesmen had the lead inside of 10 points twice from that point on, but the Tigers continued to push to come away with the 70-53 lead.
TURNING POINT
- Three Chase Sanders three-point baskets, after the Statesmen cut the lead down to three, pushed the UWA advantage to 12 and the Tigers never looked back.
