Wolferding, White Push Statesmen Past UAM

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Blake Wolferding and Hayden White combined for three home runs and eight RBI to lead Delta State University baseball team (7-10, 5-10 GSC) to a 12-2 run-rule win over the University of Arkansas Monticello (4-7, 4-5 GAC) on Tuesday at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.
 
Wolferding had two home runs and four RBI while White belted a two-run home run and had a two-run double to pace the Statesmen 12-hit attack.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Blake Wolferding belted a two-run home run with Peyton Faulkner on base after a hit by a pitch to give the Statesmen a 2-0 lead in the second.
  • The lead increased to 3-0 in the third when Hayden White was hit by a pitch and scored on a Jake Barlow sac-fly.
  • Arkansas-Monticello go on the board scored two runs to fourth to cut the DSU lead to 3-2. Andrew Piraino had an RBI single, and Aaron Gaela got the see second run home with a sac-fly.
  • White belted a two-run home run in the fourth followed make the score 5-2 in the fourth.
  • Delta State added four more runs to take a 9-2 lead in the fifth. Two runs came on Wolferding's second two-run home run of the game followed by a White two-run double.
  • The lead grew to 11-2 in the sixth. Jake Barlow singled and scored on a Donovan Shows RBI groundout and Peyton Faulkner singled and scored on a passed ball.
  • Chad Ragland walked and scored on a Blayke Dendy sac-fly to end the game via the run-rule.
ON THE MOUND
  • Cade Whitley (1-0) gave up two runs on two hits with two strikeouts and three walks to earn the win in his first career start for the Statesmen..
  • Kris Peet gave up one hit in 2.1 scoreless innings in relief of Whitley.
  • Tyler Walton tossed one shutout inning to with a walk. 
  • Trent Bunting (0-1) allowed three runs on four hits with two strikeouts to take the loss for UAM.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Wolferding had a pair of two runs home runs and finished with four RBI.
  • White was 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and a two-run double for four RBI.
  • Smeltzer finished the day 2-for-4.
  • Jordan Johnson, Andrew Piraino and Nick Fakuori accounted for UAM's three hits.
