CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State University Lady Statesmen softball team opened up their home slate with the visiting Lady Bulldogs of Union University in a 3-2 from behind fashion. After four scoreless inning, Union scored one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings thanks to errors from DSU. Then in the bottom of the sixth, a two RBI single from
Haley Simpson tied the game. The very next batter,
Summer Cryder, had a sacrfice bunt to score
Taylor Picou for the winning run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the top of the fifth, Union took a 1-0 lead. Ashten Petty reached base on an error then scored two batters later on another error.
- In the top of the sixth, Samantha McDaniel scored on an error to extend the Lady Bulldog lead to 2-0.
- In the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Statesmen jumped ahead 3-2 with a single to right field by Simpson to score Jaclyn Deason and Jenny Griggers to start the inning. To close out the game a SAC-bunt by Cryder allowed Picou to score and claim the win.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Lacey Coats (12-2) started and earned the win for the Green and White. Coats gave up only six hits and two unearned runs in seven innings of work.
- Gabby Morris (3-9) would take the loss for the Lady Bulldogs. Morris gave up five hits and three runs in six innings of work.
NOTABLES (GM1)
- Simpson went 2-for-3 on the night for the Lady Statesmen.
