CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State University Lady Statesmen softball team closed out their home slate with the visiting Lady Bulldogs of Union (Tenn.) University by splitting double header. Union outlasted the Lady Statesmen in a 10-7 win in the first game. The Lady Statesmen would then take the rubber game 8-6 as they held off a late Union rally.

GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the top of the first, Union took a 2-0 lead. Samantha McDaniel doubled to center field which scored Harley Bartholomew and Alyssa Ward.
- In the bottom of the first, Lady Statesmen came back and tied the game 2-2. Summer Cryder would start the inning with a solo homerun to left field. To end the inning Karley Bloesch singled to right center which brought Kailyn Lofton cross the plate.
- In the bottom of the second, the Lady Statesmen jumped ahead 7-2. A triple to center field by Jenny Griggers would start the inning. The hit scored Raegan Stafford and Cryder.
- Hope Harbin singled right field scoring Griggers, then Bloesch doubled to center field scoring Harbin. To close out the inning, Jaclyn Deason singled to right field which scored Bloesch.
- In the top of the third, the Lady Bulldogs tied the game 7-7. To start the inning Sarah Smith hit a two run homerun which also scored Bartholomew. With two runners on the bases, Tori York would hit a three-run homerun. That scored Taylor Manley and Gabby Morris to close out the inning for UU.
- In the top of the fifth, Ward singled to left field, which scored Morris. That would give Union an 8-7 lead.
- The Lady Bulldogs would seal the 10-7 game in the top of the sixth. Morris singled to left field which scored Smith. In the end of the game Manley would ground out to Cryder at third which scored McDaniel.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Brookelyn Sweeney (1-1) took the loss for the Green and White. Sweeney gave up five hits and three earned runs in four innings of work.
- Olivia Burns got the start for the Lady Statesmen. Burns gave up four earned runs, with three being unearned, and four hits in two and two thirds of an inning of action.
- Hannah Hasle closed out the game as she relieved for Sweeney. Hasle gave up no runs and no hits in one third of a inning of work.
- Taylor Manley (1-7) earned the win for the Lady Bulldogs. Manley gave up four hits and no runs in five and a third innings of action.
- Gabby Morris started for the Lady Bulldogs. Morris gave up five hits and seven runs in one and two thirds innings of work.

- Bloesch went 2-for-2 on the day for the Lady Statesmen.
GAME 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the top of the second, Union took a 1-0 lead. Ashten Petty singled to left center which scored Gabby Morris.
- In the top of the third, McDaniel doubled to right center, which brought in Smith extending the Union lead 2-0.
- DSU got on the board in the bottom of the third, the Lady Statesmen tied the game 2-2 after a throwing error by the pitcher scored Stafford and Cryder.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Statesmen jumped ahead 5-2 with a single to right field by Jaclyn Deason. That hit scored Harbin. Later in the inning, Haley Simpson would hit a two-run homerun which also scored Deason.
- In the bottom of the fifth, DSU made it an 8-2 lead over the Lady Bulldogs. The scoring started with a walk by Bloesch would bring home Stafford. Next for the Lady Statesmen was a Deason double down the left field line which scored Harbin and Jenny Griggers.
- In the top of the seventh, Union would come within two in a final rally. Petty scored on a fielding error to start. With a runner on, Smith came up and hit a two-run homerun. To end the inning and the rally, Grace White would hit a solo homerun. Then Lacey Coats got a strikeout to end the game at 8-6.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Lacey Coats (13-2) went the distance and earned the win for the Green and White. Coats gave up only six hits and two unearned runs in seven innings of work.
- Gabby Morris (3-10) would take the loss for the Lady Bulldogs. Morris gave up four hits and five runs in three and two thirds' innings of work.
- Taylor Manley came in to relieve Morris. Manley gave up three runs on three hits in one and one third innings.
- Madisen Blackwell closed out the game for the Lady Bulldogs. Blackwell gave up no runs and no hits in one inning of action.

- Deason and Stafford went 2-for-3 on the day for the Lady Statesmen.
