VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Valdosta State University outscored the Delta State University women's basketball team 14-7 in the final quarter on the way to a 55-51 victory in the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference women's basketball tournament on Tuesday afternoon.
DSU held a 13-point lead in the second quarter, only to see the Lady Blazer chip away and take their first lead of the game with 1:16 left in the contest. The Lady Statesmen had a scoring drought of over three minutes in the fourth quarter that help sealed their fate.
Ewing had 14 points to lead all scorers and had a game-high 11 rebounds. Shaniyah Buford had 13 points as the only other scorer in double figures.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After VSU scored their first points, DSU went on 5-0 run to make it 7-2 with 5:30 left in the first quarter.
- Lady Statesmen ended the first quarter on another 6-2 run to lead 13-4 after one.
- A layup from Alanna Smith pushed the lead to 22-9 in favor of the Lady Statesmen with six minutes left in the first half.
- Two frees throw at the end of the half from Camryn Davis gave DSU a 28-22 halftime lead.
- After a quick jumper from Ewing to start the third quarter, DSU suffered a two-minute scoring-drought.
- VSU cut the lead down to 30-28 before Buford led a short run by hitting a pair of three's to make it 38-33 DSU.
- VSU then answered with their own 8-3 run to make it 44-41 at the end of the third quarter.
- The two teams traded layups to start the fourth quarter, and T'Kyra Hicks hit two layups to give DSU a 49-46 lead with 4:41 to play.
- A jumper from Shanice Nelson gave Valdosta State their first lead at 52-51 with 1:50 left in the game.
- VSU made three free throws in the last 1:50 to win 54-51.

- After DSU made it 51-48, VSU scored the last six points of the game to earn the win.
