CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Kirkland Trahan drove in three runs to lead the Delta State University baseball team (10-10, 8-10 GSC) to a 4-2 game three win and the series sweep of Union University (8-11, 7-11 GSC) on Sunday at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trey Frierson gave Union a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo home run to left field.
- Delta State tied the game 1-1 in the third. Darek Sargent walked and scored when Kirkland Trahan reached on a fielder's choice.
- The game remained tied until the fifth when the Statesmen put two-run on the board to build a 3-1 lead. Kade Dees singled, and Chad Ragland doubled before scoring on a Trahan two-run single.
- Austin Zeitler drew a walk to leadoff and scored on a Slater Schield single to cut the DSU lead to 3-2.
- Trahan doubled and scored on a Jake Barlow sac-fly in the seventh to extend lead to 4-2.
ON THE MOUND
- Matthew Sneed (1-0) gave up one run on two hits with one strikeout to get the win in relief of starter Josh Lewis.
- Sam McMillin (1-3) took the loss for Union, allowing three runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
- TJ Childree (3) gave up three hits and struck out two in the ninth to record his second save of the weekend.
- Lewis made his first career start in a Statesmen uniform, allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts in four innings of work.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Statesmen, who entered the weekend leading the nation in double plays, turned two double plays on the afternoon and now have 22 double plays through 20 games.
- Dees had three hits with a run scored to pace DSU's nine-hit attack.
- Trahan went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI and Ragland finished 2-for-5 on the day.
- Frierson finished 2-for-5 with a home run and one RBI and Britt Netterville had two hits for Union.
- The Statesmen improved to 23-12 at Ferriss Field against Union University.
