CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State University baseball team (12-10, 10-10 GSC) swept a doubleheader from host Christian Brothers University (2-19, 2-18 GSC) by the scores of 8-0 and 8-1 on Monday at Nadicksbernd Field Field.
Hunter Riggins (3-3) scattered three hits and struck out 10 through seven shutout innings and Darek Sargent and Chad Ragland combined for four RBI in the game one win.
Christian Day tossed eight strong innings with five strikeouts and Jake Barlow went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI to lead the Statesmen to the game two win.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 1
- Christian Brothers stranded runners in scoring position in the first and fourth innings while Delta State stranded a runner in scoring position in the fourth.
- The game was scoreless until the six when the Statesmen scored four times to take a 4-0 lead. Hayden White led off with single and scored on a Blake Wolferding single to left. Wolferding came home on a Donovon Shows single and Josh Smeltzer walked and came around to score on a Peyton Faulkner infield single. Sargent's RBI single that scored Shows closed the scoring in the inning.
- The lead grew to 5-0 with a two-run seventh. A Trahan sac-fly to centerfield scored White, who doubled to start the inning.
- The Statesmen added three to their total in the eighth to make it 8-0. Smeltzer worked a leadoff walk and Faulkner walked with one out. Sargent doubled home Smeltzer and Ragland doubled in Smeltzer and Faulkner.
ON THE MOUND | GM 1
- Riggins (3-3) scattered three hits and struck out 10 in seven shutout innings pitched for the win.
- Jonathan Baldelli (2-4) tossed six innings, tallying three strikeouts while allowing four runs on six hits to take the loss for CBU.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 2
- CBU took advantage of a Statesmen fielding error to score an unearned run and take a 1-0 lead in the first. A Luke Wewers' RBI single plated Jaime Soto to stake CBU to a 1-0 lead.
- Barlow put the Statesmen in front 2-1 in the second on a home run to right centerfield with Smeltzer aboard after a single.
- The Statesmen added a run in the sixth to build a 3-1 advantage. Smeltzer walked and Barlow reached on a dropped fly ball before Smeltzer scored on a Sargent single to left.
- White singled and Ragland was hit by a pitch and both scored on a pair of wild pitches to give the Statesmen a 5-1 lead in the seventh.
- Three runs crossed in the ninth to make it 8-1. Ragland led off with a double and scored on a wild pitch and Barlow doubled home Smeltzer and Trahan.
- Charlie Darnall sat the Bucs down in order in the ninth to closeout the win.
ON THE MOUND | GM 2
- Day (2-2) tossed eight strong innings, allowing one unearned with five strikeouts while scattering three hits to earn the win.
- Blake Dallas (0-5) gave up three runs, two earned on five hits and registered five strikeouts as the pitcher of record for CBU.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Riggins 10 strikeouts were one shy of his season-high of 11 against Shorter in the season opener.
- The 11 combined punchouts by Statesmen hurlers were the third most this season.
- The 8-0 game-one win marked the second shutout on the road this season following a 13-0 in game one against West Georgia.
- The game one shutout was the fifth of Riggins' career and his second of the season.
- White has reached base safely in 19 straight games, finishing game one 2-for-5 with a double while collecting a single in game two.
- Sargent had two RBI for his fourth multi-RBI game on the season, going 2-for-3 with a double.
- Ragland had two RBI with two outs to move his season two-out RBI total to 10. The junior followed up the game one outing with a pair of hits for his ninth multi-hit game of the year.
- Barlow's second inning two-run home run was his fifth of the season, tying him for the team lead with White and Kirkland Trahan.
- Barlow's four RBI in game two was his sixth multi-RBI game of the year, finishing game two 3-for-5 with a double and a two-run home run.
- The Statesmen improved to 44-5 at Nadicksbernd Field in Memphis, Tenn.
