Lady Statesmen Sail Past Lady Bucs In Comeback Fashion

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Delta State University Lady Statesmen softball team opened up their GSC slate with the Lady Bucs of Christian Brothers University earning a won on Saturday afternoon with a 6-4 win in come from behind fashion.

GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the top of the first, DSU took an early 1-0 lead. Summer Cryder scored the first run of the game on an error by Ashley Dyer.
  • Then in the top of the second, a SAC-Fly by Cryder scored Hope Harbin to extend the Lady Statesmen lead to 2-0.
  • The third inning brought a third run as a single by Jaclyn Deason and an error allowed Jenny Griggers to score.
  • In the bottom of the third, CBU tied the game 3-3. A triple by Dyer and a Lady Statesmen throwing error allowed Cara Alexander, Savannah Crockett and Dyer to scorefor CBU.
  • Then in the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Bucs jumped ahead 4-3 with a SAC-fly by Crockett scoring Elaina McGill.
  • In the top of the fifth, the Lady Statesmen went back ahead 6-4 with a error that scored Raegan Stafford. A single to the pitcher from Harbin aided Sara Lawrence and Griggers in scoring to claim the win.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Lacey Coats (14-3) started and earned the win for the Green and White. Coats gave up only three hits and four runs in four innings of work.
  • Brookelyn Sweeney earned the save as she relieved Coats for the last three innings of the game. Sweeney shutdown CBU while giving up no runs and no hits in the three innings of action.
  • Mary Cumming (1-5) would take the loss for the Lady Bucs. Cummings gave up eight hits and six runs in seven innings of work.
NOTABLES (GM1)
  • The Lady Statesmen out hit CBU 8-3.
  • Sweeney earned her first save of the season.
  • Griggers and Harbin had two RBI's a piece.
