OXFORD, Miss. -- The Delta State University Lady Statesmen split a Sunday afternoon doubleheader with the Lady Bucs of Christian Brothers University to close the series. The Lady Statesmen took game one of the double header 7-5 before being edged out by the Lady Bucs in a 6-1 loss in game two.

GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lady Statesmen took an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first.
- Raegan Stafford opened up the game with a double to left center which scored Summer Cryder.
- Next, Kailyn Lofton doubled to left center which scored Stafford.
- Jenny Griggers followed that with her own double to center field which helped Lofton cross home plate.
- To end the inning, Julie Scheuermann singled to left field which scored Griggers.
- In the bottom of the second, CBU would take a 5-4 lead. Memory Willingham started the inning with a single to right field which brought Elaina McGill and Savannah Crockett in to score. Josie Bond doubled to left field which scored Willingham and Mackenzie Puckett. To end the inning, Bond would capitalize on a throwing error by Lofton to score the last run.
- In the top of the third, DSU would take a 6-5 lead when Stafford singled to center field scoring Scheuermann and Sara Lawrence.
- In the top of the fifth, the Lady Statesmen sealed the 7-5 win with a single by Lofton to center field which scored Taylor Picou for the final run of the game.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Olivia Burns (4-6) started and earned the win for the Lady Statesmen. Burns gave up seven hits and five runs in five and a third innings.
- Lacey Coats earned the save as she relieved Burns for the last inning and a half of the game. Coats shutdown CBU giving up no runs and no hits in one and two-thirds innings of action.
- McKenna Rose started for CBU. Rose gave up four runs and three hits while just seeing four batters in the first inning.
- Mackenzie Puckett (1-3) would come in to relieve Rose and take the loss for the Lady Bucs. Puckett gave up seven hits and three runs in seven innings of work.
NOTABLES (GM2)
- Lofton went 3-for-4 with two RBI's.
- Katelyn Hayman went 1-for-1 for the Lady Statesmen.
GAME 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Bucs took an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Bree Brady started the scoring run with a SAC-fly that scored Ashley Dyer. A single by Mackenzie Puckett scored Josie Bond and Kendall Westbrooks. Memory Willingham closed out the inning with a double down the left field line to score Savannah Crockett.
- In the top of the fourth, The Lady Statesmen would tack on their first run to bring the score to 4-1. Haley Simpson singled to left field which scored Jenny Griggers for the only run of the game for the Green and White.
- In the bottom of the fourth, CBU would complete the 6-1 victory after a single by Brady scored Bond and Dyer.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Brookelyn Sweeney (1-2) started and took the loss for the Lady Statesmen. Sweeney gave up four runs and four hits in a third of the inning.
- Lacey Coats came in and relieved Sweeney. Coats gave up four hits and two runs in two and two thirds' innings of work.
- Olivia Burns came in to relieve Coats. Burns would shut out the Lady Bucs. Burns didn't give up any runs or hits in three innings of action.
- Macy Cumming (2-5) started and earned the win for the Lady Bucs. Cumming's gave up one run off six hits through seven innings.
