Lady Statesmen Shutout the Lady Bulldogs on the Road

JACKSON, Tenn.- The Delta State University women's soccer team scored a goal in the first half and added two second half goals on the way to a 3-0 win over the Union University on Friday evening.

DSU dominated the entire game outshooting the Lady Bulldogs 15-2. Carra Hymel scored the opening goal and Diana Okechukwu added two second hafl goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the first five minutes, Carra Hymel and Tasha Toms had shots on goal that were stopped by the Union goalkeeper.
  • Hymel gave DSU a 1-0 lead scoring in the 29th minute.
  • The Green and White held pressure on the Lady Bulldogs for the rest of the first half taking eight total shots.
  • In the 51st minute, Diana Okechukwu scored off a corner taken by Niamh Jestin.
  • Okechukwu converted a penalty kick five minutes later to snag her second goal of the night.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • DSU had 15 shots, with nine of those on goal. Union took two shots with one on goal.
  • Amanda Hilliard and Kaleh Hoard in goal for the Green and White only faced two shots.

NOTABLES

  • The Lady Statesmen remain undefeated under the new direction of the head coach Mark Hiller.
  • Okechukwu now has 15 career goals which is second all-time in Delta State history. She only trails Catherine Sanford who scored 19 goals in 2006 and 2007.
