CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Delta State University football is ranked at No. 25 in this week's American Football Coaches Association Poll released on Monday, Sept. 20, 2021.
The Statesmen dropped a 27-26 decision to then No. 18 West Georgia and are among five Gulf South Conference schools ranked in the this week's poll. West Florida remained in the top spot followed by No. 4 Valdosta State, No. 14 West Georgia and No. 21 West Alabama.
The Top 5 had another reshuffle this week, but West Florida is still the top team with all 30 first-place votes. The Argonauts went on the road and beat then-No. 21 Texas A&M-Commerce, 35-17, dropping the Lions out of the rankings. Northwest Missouri State is the new No. 2 team this week after their 47-7 rout of Central Missouri. Ferris State (Mich.) had to use overtime to beat Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) and fell to the No. 3 spot. Valdosta State (Ga.) still sits at No. 4, while Colorado School of Mines takes over at No. 5 thanks to their 76-0 blowout win over Fort Lewis (Colo.).
