TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The Delta State University Lady Statesmen swimming and diving team opened the 2021-2022 season against the University of Alabama for the ninth time in the last decade on Friday afternoon at the Don Gambril Olympic Pool.

INSIDE THE ROPES
- Delta State's 'A' relay squad of Martina Rossetti. Madison Lavoie, Celeste Turner, and Dani Solkow placed fourth with a time of 1:50.30 in the 200 medley relay to get the afternoon started.
- Freshman Jamie Glover paced the Lady Statesmen in the 1000 freestyle with a 10:47.71, good for third place. Bella Kelly placed fourth and Sommer Rhodes placed fifth in the event as well.
- Sydney Crawford secured a sixth-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:01.23. Peyton Osborn finished seventh and Erica Hajduk placed eighth in the same event.
- Rossetti captured fourth in the 100 backstroke (59.64), Hayden Kirkhart secured fifth, Kelsey Farmer finished sixth, and Rachel Kramer placed seventh.
- The 100 breaststroke saw Alexis Moon finish sixth (1:07.71) in her collegiate debut, and Lavoie close in seventh (1:08.21).
- Turner led the way in the 200 butterfly with a 2:11.37, and Sophie Lutz snagged fifth overall in the same event.
- Solkow swam to fifth with a 25.20 in the 50 freestyle, while Helena Hall finished seventh with 27.05.
- Solkow added another sixth-place finish in the 100 freestyle, while Crawford and Hall finished seventh and eighth in the same event.
- Madelyn Byrd swam a 2:09.59 as she finished fifth in the 200 backstroke.
- Lavoie, Moon, and Lutz finished fourth, fifth, and sixth in the 200 breaststroke for the Lady Statesmen.
- Glover posted a fourth place finish and time of 5:15.28 in the 500 freestyle.
- Byrd captured the highest finish for the Lady Statesmen in the 100 butterfly with a 1:00.71.
- Lavoie, Farmer, Lutz, finished first, second, and third in the 200 IM.
- Delta State's 'A' and 'B' relay teams finished first and second, respectively, in the 200 freestyle relay to close out the competition.
ON THE BOARDS:
- Hannah Babcock, in her collegiate debut for Delta State, captured third with a tally of 227.40 on the one-meter board.
- Gillian Pratt (212.48) also finished fourth on one meter.
- Babcock tallied a 228.08 to finish first on the three-meter diving board for the Lady Statesmen.
- Pratt (208.65) and Megan Black (159.45) finished second and third in the three-meter competition.
