Lady Statesmen Capture Third Straight Win in Convincing Fashion

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State University women's soccer team won its third straight Gulf South Conference game with a 6-1 victory over Shorter University on Friday afternoon.

Reigning Gulf South Conference freshman of the week, Jae'lasha Julien, scored just 27 seconds into the match and the Lady Statesmen never looked back. The six goals were the most scored by the Green and White in a Gulf South Conference game in school history.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lady Statesmen came out firing as Julien scored on the first shot of the game just 27 seconds into the match off of a pass from Anna Whitehead.
  • Julien then added her second in the 16th minute off a pass from Jennifer Lopez.
  • In the 30th minute, Mia Ramirez scored her first goal after stealing a pass.
  • Ramirez earned her second goal on a through-ball from Mary Ann O'Kennedy.
  • Right before the halftime whistle, Mackenzie Thompson scored the fifth the goal of the game.
  • The only goal for DSU in the second half came from Mathilde Skovbakke off of a corner kick.
  • Shorter notched its only goal in the 80th minute when Danielle Forsythe pounced on a deflected ball.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • DSU had 25 shots to Shorter's three.
  • The Lady Statesmen had 12 shots on target and eight corner kicks.
  • This was the most goals scored in a Gulf South Conference game in school history for Delta State.
  • It was also the most goals scored against Shorter. The previous high was five, set in 2012.
