Statesmen Drop Home Match to Lee University

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University men's soccer team fell to Lee (Tenn.) University 3-0 at Delta Field on Sunday afternoon. The Flames scored in the tenth minute and added two goals in the second half to earn the win.
 
It is the fourth straight loss for the Statesmen to the Flames. The last result DSU has against Lee was a 1-1 tie in 2016.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lee had the first opportunity of the game in the tenth minute and capitalized when Fabian Navarro slipped it past Mattis Kloepper.
  • Pablo Lopez-Melus had a shot in the 35th minute but it was deflected wide.
  • Kloepper had to make a point blank save in the 37th minute to keep it just a 1-0 game.
  • Tom Toulson's shot was blocked by the Flames in the 55th minute and Pablo Herrera's follow up shot was just high.
  • Toulson earned a yellow card in the 65th minute for DSU.
  • The Flames earned a free kick in the 67th minute and Eemeli Makela made the Statesmen pay with a strike into the top left corner.
  • The Flames added a third goal in the 72nd minute on a shot by Caio Arantes.
  • Mathis Hardy also earned a yellow card in the 79th minute.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • DSU had nine shots to Lee's six, but the Flames had four shots on target while the Statesmen did not have one.
  • Lee had 15 fouls and the Statesmen committed 11.
