Two Late Goals Down Lady Statesmen Against Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. --  For the majority of the match between the Delta State University women's soccer team and Drury, it looked like the two teams were on course for overtime.  Two goals in the final 12 minutes by the Panthers, however, doomed the Green and White to their second loss of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Delta State applied immediate pressure, registering two shots from Anna Whitehead and Mary Ann O'Kennedy within the first 10 minutes.
  • Christine Harpe put Drury's first attempt on goal in the 40th minute, but Amanda Hilliard made a comfortable save.
  • Mia Ramirez, Jae'lasha Julien, and Addison Mills each tried their luck from distance, but neither player hit the target.
  • Drury created a breakaway in the 58th minute, but Hilliard produced a spectacular diving save to deny Kennedy Thompson.
  • Hilliard had to leave her feet again to keep the match scoreless as she shut Thompson down once more in the 64th minute.
  • The Panthers used a free kick routine to free up Krysten Schuster in the 78th minute, who slotted home a shot from inside 10 yards.
  • Nine minutes later, Elsa Gonzalez ran onto the end of a Lindsey Lee long ball and finished off a counter attack to put Drury ahead 2-0 at the 87 minute mark.
  • Julien and Madison Lafontaine combined to create the Green and White's last attack in the final 90 seconds, but the Drury defense snuffed out each player's shot.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Despite an even contest, the Panthers took more shots (11-8) and put more shots on goal (5-3).
  • Both goalkeepers made three saves.
  • Drury almost doubled the Delta State foul total, committing 11 to six for the Lady Statesmen.
