MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Statesmen (0-7 overall, 0-5 GSC) are still looking for their first win of the season after Friday night's trip to Auburn Montgomery (3-4, 2-2). The percentages continue to improve for the Statesmen, but an even better shooting performance by the Warhawks gave them the 74-66 win.

Delta State had 10 made three-pointers in the game, including three from Sam Smith who was also the game-high scorer with 20 points and 8 rebounds. The Warhawks made 12 threes, but only needed 22 attempts (.545) to reach that mark, compared to the 29 attempts by DSU (.345). Delta State did win the points in the paint battle with a 28-26 advantage.

Maalik Cartwright and Lee Cotton also reached double figures with 16 and 15 points respectively. Cartwright also recorded 6 rebounds and 2 assists in his 38 minutes. Cotton hit 4 three-pointers and also recorded a rebound and an assist.
