Burns Tosses DSU Past Southern Indiana at Charger Chillout

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. -- Olivia Burns (1-1) tossed a complete game, allowing one run and five scattered hits with three strikeouts to lead the Delta State University softball team to a 2-1 win over Southern Indiana on Friday at the Charger Chillout.

The Lady Statesmen fell to Spring Hill College 4-0 to leave with a split on day one of the event.

HOW IT HAPPENED | USI
  • Raegan Stafford singled and then scored on a Karley Bloesch double to center field to give the Lady Statesmen a 1-0 lead in the third.
  • USI tied the game with a Sammie Kihega single to left field.
  • Jenny Griggers singled and scored on a Chrissy Tubbs squeeze bunt to put Delta State ahead 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth.

  • Olivia Burns (1-1) tossed a complete game, allowing one run and scattering five hits with three strikeouts to earn her first win of the season
  • Katie Back (0-1) gave up the go ahead run and had a strikeout to suffer the loss for USI.

  • Spring Hill plated a run in second, two in the third and a run in the fourth inning to build a 4-0 lead through five innings.
  • Macy Holt got a run home on a sac-fly in the second.
