ROME, Ga. -- The Delta State University softball team split the double header with Shorter University on Saturday afternoon. Shorter won game one 10-9 on a walk-off grand slam. Then Delta State rebounded and run-ruled the Lady Hawks 14-6 in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED |
GAME 1
- Shorter scored first in the bottom of the second. The Lady Hawks used a single, passed ball and a couple of ground outs to score.
- In the bottom of the third, the Lady Hawks used two walks and two hits to bring in two more runs.
- Delta State got on the scoreboard in the fourth. Jenny Griggers hit a solo home run to score the first run of the game.
- MyCala Helms hit a triple to bring in Chrissy Tubbs. Taylor Picou then hit an infield single to score Helms and tie the ball game at 3-3.
- In the sixth, Katelyn Hayman doubled and scored Ali Gover and Helms to give DSU a 5-3 lead.
- Shorter answered right back in the bottom of the sixth and scored three runs to give them a 6-5 lead.
- Alyssa Branyan drove in Alana Walker in the top of the seventh to make it a tie game at 6-6.
- Picou then hit a double to drive in two more runs. Stafford drew a two out walk and made it a 9-6 lead for the Lady Statesmen.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Shorter's Payton Tuder hit a walk-off grand slam to defeat DSU 10-9

- Lacey Coats (2-2) received the loss giving up six runs in six hits with two walks in one inning
- Olivia Burns started the game for Delta State and went two innings giving up three runs on four hits with four walks.
- Hannah Hasle threw three innings of relief for DSU only allowing one run on four hits.
- Courtney Pinkston (1-0) earned the win for Shorter. She went one-third of an inning, hit one batter and walked another.
- Asia McWaters got the start for Shorter. She went five and two-thirds innings giving up five runs on seven hits.
- Madison Pettigrew threw one inning of relief and gave up four runs on three hits.

GAME 2
- Picou had the first RBI of the game in the second inning driving in Tubbs.
- Raegan Stafford then hit a single that scored two more runs to give DSU the 3-0 lead in the top of the second.
- Kailyn Lofton reached base on an error and allowed Hayman to score.
- Karley Bloesch then hit a three-run home run to give DSU a 7-0 lead in the second inning. It was the first home run of the season for Bloesch.
- In the bottom of the third, Shorter hit a double and a single to score a run.
- After Jenny Griggers hit a double in the top of the fourth, Helms drive her in with a single to make it 9-1.
- Shorter responded with five runs in the bottom of the fourth thanks to three hits and two errors to cut the lead down to 9-6.
- A Kailyn Lofton double scored Raegan Stafford to make it 10-6 in the top of the sixth.
- Bloesh got her fourth RBI bringing in Lofton to make it 11-6 in the sixth inning.
- Helms hit her first home run of the season with a two run shot to make it 13-6.
- Tubbs then left the yard as well with a solo home run to make it 14-6.

- Hannah Hasle (1-0) earned her first win of the season going three and a third innings giving up five runs on four hits.
- Olivia Burns finished the game in relief going two and two-thirds innings giving up one run on two hits.
NOTABLES
- Bloesch went 4-for-8 at the plate with four RBI in the two games.
- Helms was 4-for-7 at the plate with four RBI.
