Lady Statesmen Split Pair of Games at Gulf Shores Invite

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- The Delta State University softball team split a pair of games against Union University (Tenn.) and the University of North Georgia on Saturday at the Gulf Shores Invitational.

Jenny Griggers went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored for the Lady Statesmen in an 8-2 win over Union before DSU fell to North Georgia 11-1 in five innings to wrap up the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Union University
  • Holding a 3-2 lead in the fifth, the Lady Statesmen plated three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to pull away for an 8-2 win over Gulf South Conference foe Union University.
  • The Lady Statesmen scored runs on an Alana Walker RBI double and a Kailyn Lofton sac-fly while another run crossed on a wild pitch.
  • Chrissy Tubbs doubled and scored on a Jenny Griggers triple while adding the second run on a double steal.

  • Lacey Coats (1-0) worked 4.1 innings allowing two runs on eight hits with a strikeout.
  • Olivia Burns (1) tossed 2.2 scoreless frames with a walk and a strikeout to pick up the save for the Lady Statesmen.
