GULF SHORES, Ala. -- The Delta State University softball team closed out the final day of the Gulf Shores Invitational with a 9-0 loss to St. Leo University on Sunday at the Gulf Shores Sportplex.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Delta State stranded runners in scoring position in the top of the first and a runner in scoring position in the third and fourth innings.
• The Lions scored three runs in the first, one in the second and third, and four in the bottom of the fourth to build the 9-0 advantage.

IN THE CIRCLE

• Oliva Burns (0-1) gave up two runs on four hits with a strikeout and a walk in 2.0 innings pitched to take the loss for the Lady Statesmen.
• Morgan Stafford (1-0) tossed a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts to earn the win for the Lions.

NOTABLES

• Raegan Stafford and Kailyn Lofton each had hits for the Lady Statesmen.
• Jordyn Wolf went 3-for-3 with three runs scored to lead SLU.
