Reddies Take 5-4 Win, Spoil Statesmen Comeback

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- An Alec Lewis bases loaded single up to left gave No. 18 Henderson State University a 5-4 walk-off win over the No. 24 Delta State University baseball team on Monday afternoon at Clyde Berry Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Statesmen erased a pair of two-run deficits on the afternoon.
  • Rodney Hibler had a sac-fly in the fifth and Dalton Cummins scored on a Kylan Carter ground out in the sixth.
  • Henderson State scored two runs in the seventh to build a 4-2 lead.
  • Dalton Cummins singled in a run and Hayden White scored on the play courtesy of a throwing error to tie the game at 4-4 in the top of the ninth.
  • Henderson State loaded the bases without the benefit of hit to set up Lewis' game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth.
ON THE MOUND
  • Harrison Haley posted six strikeouts and allowed two runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings of work in his Statesmen mound debut.
  • Charlie Darnall (0-1) gave up one run on a hit with a strikeout, two walks and a hit batter in the ninth to take the loss for DSU.
  • Blake Pennington (1-0) earned the win in relief, yielding two runs on two hits with four strikeouts and two walks over 1.2 innings.
NOTABLES 
  • The middle of the Statesmen order went a combined 1-for-11 with two runs scored, three walks and two strikeouts on the day.
  • Hibler, Cummins, and Carter had an RBI apiece for the Statesmen.
  • Kirkland Trahan, White, Cummins, Carter and Chad Ragland accounted for DSU's five singles on the day. 
  • DSU had 11 hits, two for extra bases, in the two games of the Mike Dugan Collegiate Classic.
