Zizmann's Six Strong Innings Help Lift Delta State Past Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Landon Zizmann logged six innings and did not give up an earned run while striking out four as the Delta State University baseball team defeated Barry University 12-1 on Friday night at Feinbloom Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Barry got an RBI single in the first inning to jump out to an early one-run advantage. 
  • Rodney Hibler two-RBI single through the left side plated Carson Clowers and Dalton Cummins to give DSU a lead they never gave up.
  • The Statesmen were hit by a pitch four times in the fourth inning, which helped them plate four runs to take a 6-1 lead. 
  • Blayke Dendy's fifth inning home run, his first hit of the season, made it 7-1 DSU.
  • Kirkland Trahan added a three-run homer in the eighth inning.
  • Hayden Cooper reached on a dropped fly ball in right field in the eighth inning to plate Jake Barlow for the game's final tally.
ON THE MOUND
  • Zizmann worked six innings and gave up one unearned run while he scattered three hits and three walks against four strikeouts to grab his first win of the campaign.
  • Andrew Morlen logged two innings in his Statesmen debut and yielded a hit and two walks with one strikeout.
  • Cooper Brune tossed a scoreless ninth on six pitches in his first outing of the season. 
NOTABLES 
  • Cooper registered the first RBI of his Delta State career.
  • Noah Thigpen added his first hit for Delta State with a double down the line in left field. 
  • The Statesmen registered five extra-base hits against the Bucs, a season-high.
