ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- The Delta State University baseball team could not dig its way out of an early five-run deficit in a 10-5 loss to Ouachita Baptist University on Tuesday at Rab Rodgers Field.

  HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Tigers took an early 5-0 lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and three runs in the second. 
  • Isaac Nowell and Jud Arrington had RBI singles in the first, and G. Allen hit a three-run home run in the second.
  • Brett Burrell singled and scored on a groundout double play to cut the deficit to 5-1 in the third. 
  • Blayke Dendy singled and scored on a Gabe Stockton groundout to make it a 5-2 game in the fifth. 
  • Wyatt Core drove in a pair of runs in the fifth to extend the OBU lead to 7-2.
  • Run-scoring singles by Allen and Nowell gave the Tigers a 9-2 lead in the sixth.
  • Chad Ragland and Hayden White were hit by pitches and scored on a Jake Barlow two-run double to trim the Tigers' lead to 9-4 in the eighth. 
  • Tallon Heine single in a run in the eighth to give OBU a 10-4 lead. 
  • Dalton Cummins doubled and scored on a Wyatt Pratt sacrifice fly in the ninth.

  • Cade Whitley (1-1) gave up five runs on five hits with four strikeouts in four innings to take the loss. 
  • Beau Burson (3-2) allowed one run on two hits with four strikeouts against one walk to pick up the win.

  • Chad Ragland got hit by a pitch to extend his reached base in 17 straight games.

  • Hayden White got plunked by a pitch in the eighth, extending his reach base streak to 16 games.
