HOW IT HAPPENED
- Blayke Dendy doubled home Hayden White, and Kirkland Trahan scored on an error by the right fielder to give DSU a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
- A Carson Clowers double plated Brett Cobb in the second as DSU led 3-0.
- SAU added a run in the third, but Hayden White scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-1 DSU.
- White and Trahan added RBI singles, and Trahan scored on a balk as Delta State opened up an 8-1 lead after four innings.
- The Muleriders made it an 8-4 game after a run in the fifth and two in the sixth inning.
- Chad Ragland had a pair of clutch hits for the Statesmen in the game's late stages. He poked an RBI single in the 7th to take the lead back to five runs, and added an RBI single in the ninth inning to make it a four-run game.
ON THE MOUND
- Whitley (1-0) went four innings and only allowed one run on five hits while striking out three.
- Jackson Rutledge worked a scoreless eighth inning, while Steven Lacey struck out two against one run yielded in the ninth to aid in the win.
NOTABLES
- Eight different Statesmen players collected at least one hit, while five different players had multiple hits. Four Statesmen players, White, Trahan, Dendy, and Wyatt Pratt, registered three hits apiece.
- White registered his fourth consecutive multi-hit game for the Statesmen.
- Dendy drove in a run to notch his 13th RBI to lead Delta State.
- Five different players, White, Dendy, Barlow, Pratt, and Clowers all posted a double.
