Lady Statesmen Split Doubleheader With Harding University

SEARCY, Ark. -- The Delta State University softball team split a doubleheader with Harding University on Tuesday afternoon. Delta State was shutout in game one before rebounding and scoring seven runs in game two to snap a five game losing streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 1
  • In the bottom of the first, Hanna Jones scored on a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Leigha Harris drove in her second run of the game scoring Ashtyn Bryce to increase the lead to 2-0 in the third inning for Harding.
  • In the top of the fifth, Alyssa Branyan got on base but Raegan Stafford hit into a double play to end the threat.
IN THE CIRCLE | GAME 1
  • Lacey Coats (8-9) took the complete game loss in game one. She threw her tenth complete game of the season. In the loss, Coats allowed two run on two hits while walking two batters and striking out two.
  •  Lily Tanski (10-6) threw the complete game shutout in game one. She gave up four hits and struck out five in the win. 
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 2
  • Taylor Picou and then was brought home by an Olivia Burns double to give DSU the 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
  • Harding tied the game in the bottom of the first when Nicole Shano brought Jones home.
  • Kailyn Lofton hit a double to lead off the second inning. She was thrown out at home after a single from Raegan Stafford in right field.
  • The Lady Statesmen scored two runs on four hits in the fifth inning. Picou and Burns brought home Stafford and Tubbs to give the Lady Statesmen the 3-1 lead.
  • Harding responded with Jones bringing in Bryce to make it 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth.
  • In the top of the sixth, Stafford drove in MyCala Helms to make it 4-2.
  • Picou then smoked a single which scored Stafford to make it 5-2.
  • Burns then had a huge double all the way to the wall which scored two more runs and made it 7-2.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Harding scored three runs on four hits and an error.
IN THE CIRCLE | GAME 2
  • Hannah Hasle (8-3) earned the win, going six and two-thirds innings. She gave up five runs on nine hits.
  • Maegan Pistokache (10-6) took the loss for Harding. She went four and one-third innings giving up three runs on eight hits.
  • Olivia Burns picked up her third save up the season getting the final out of the game.
NOTABLES 
  • Chrissy Tubbs had two of the four hits for the Lady Statesmen in game one.
  • Burns was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI in game two.
