Delta State Softball Drops Two Games to UWF

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State University softball team dropped both games of the double header on Friday afternoon.

The Lady Statesmen were outhit in the two games 27-12 and outscored 17-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME 1
  • In the top of the first, UWF managed three singles and brought home two runs.
  • UWF added another run in the top of the second, but Katelyn Hayman threw out a runner trying to stretch a single into a double.
  • Jessica Ford hit a two-run home run in the third inning for UWF to make it 5-0.
  • Delta State got on the board in the fifth on a two-run home run from MyCala Helms scoring Karley Bloesch to make it 5-2.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Helms had a sacrifice fly to score Kailyn Lofton to make it 5-3.
  • UWF answered in the seventh with three runs including a two-run home run from Madelyn Vasquez.
IN THE CIRCLE | GAME 1
  • Hannah Hasle (8-4) went two and one-third innings giving up five runs on seven hits.
  • Makenna Keeton in relief for the Lady Statesmen, went four and two-thirds innings giving up three runs on seven hits.

  • UWF's Madelyn Webb hit a two-run home run to give the Argos the 2-0 lead in the top of the second.
  • DSU got its first run of the game in the bottom of the second when Raegan Stafford tripled off the right field wall scoring Jenny Griggers.
  • Kayla Moon scored for UWF in the third inning to make it 3-1.
  • Olivia Burns hit a solo home in the third to make it 4-2.
  • In the top of the fifth, UWF scored four runs on four hits including a solo home run to extend the lead to 8-2.
  • UWF tallied their final run in the seventh inning on a couple of hits.

  • Lacey Coats (8-10) went four innings giving up six runs on eight hits with two strike outs.
  • Burns threw two and one-third innings in relief and gave up three runs on five hits with one strikeout.
