Diamond Statesmen Rally For 5-2 Win Over West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. Blayke Dendy hit a three-run home run and Trace McNabb threw four scoreless innings to propel the No. 13/16 Delta State University baseball team to a 5-2 win over the University of West Alabama on Sunday at Tartt Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED  
  • West Alabama scored twice in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Brayden Lyman doubled in a run, and Josh Bower had an RBI single. 
  • Trahan belted his second home run of the weekend to cut the UWA lead in half, 2-1, in the second. 
  • The Tigers' held the lead until the eighth, when Dendy belted a three-run home run with Trahan and Jake Barlow onboard to give the Statesmen a 4-2 lead. 
  • Delta State added an insurance run when Chad Ragland scored on a Barlow sac-fly n the ninth inning. 
  • Steven Lacey recorded a 1-2-3 inning to close the win. 
ON THE MOUND  
  • Starter Hammer Franks worked 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with a strikeout and three walks. 
  • UWA starter Mason Hollander (2-4) recorded nine strikeouts while giving up three runs on six hits to take the loss. 
  • McNabb (2-0) did not allow a hit and recorded four strikeouts in 4.0 innings of relief to earn the win. 
  • Lacey (2) threw a scoreless ninth, ending the game with a strikeout to notch the save. 
NOTABLES
  • Trahan finished the day with a double and a home run while Dendy had a home run and a single as the only Statesmen with multiple hits. 
  • Trahan's solo home run in the second inning moved him into second on the team with nine. 
  • Dendy's go-ahead home run in the eighth was his eighth of the year. 
  • The win ended a three-game road losing skid for the Statesmen.
