No. 25 Statesmen Take 14-7 Win Over Henderson State

CLEVELAND, Miss. Hayden White and Jake Barlow combined to drive in seven runs to lead the No. 25 Delta State University baseball team to a 14-7 win over Henderson State University on Wednesday at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED  
  • Cade Tucker doubled and scored on a David Vilches sac-fly to give the Reddies a 1-0 lead in the second inning. 
  • Dalton Cummins' solo home run in the bottom of the second knotted the score at 1-1. 
  • The Statesmen scored six runs on four hits and took advantage of an HSU error to take a 7-1 lead after four innings. Jake Barlow singled home two runs, Hayden White worked a bases-loaded walk and Carson Clowers got a run in on a sac-fly. 
  • Henderson State tied the game 7-7 with a six-run fifth. 
  • Gabe Stockton singled home Carson Clowers in the bottom of the fifth to put the Statesmen back in front 8-7. 
  • Jake Barlow highlighted a three-run sixth with a two-run home run to push the Statesmen's lead to 11-7. 
  • A Cummins' RBI single made the score 12-7 in the seventh. 
  • The Statesmen added two runs in the eighth on a White two-run double for a 14-7 advantage.
ON THE MOUND  
  • Cooper Brune (2-1) picked up the win, working 3.2 scoreless innings against two hits with four strikeouts. 
  • Ethan Roark (0-2) gave up the one run on three hits with a strikeout to take the loss for the Reddies. 
  • The teams combined to use 13 pitchers on the night, seven for Henderson State and five for the Statesmen. 
NOTABLES
  • Barlow blasted his 45th career home run to move within five homers of Zack Shannon (50) for second place on DSU's all-time home run list. 
  • Barlow and White combined to drive in sevenths and score five runs for the Statesmen. 
  • Cummins finished 3-for-4 with two RBI while belting his third home run of the season. 
  • Clowers, Barlow, and Ragland were the only other Statesmen with multiple hits. 
  • Eight of the Statesmen's nine starts had at least one hit on the night.
