Lady Statesmen Fall Late to Mississippi College, 5-2

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Mississippi College scored five runs in the top of the seventh to upend the Delta State University softball 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the University Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED |
  • Mississippi College threatened in the first inning but left the bases loaded.
  • Kailyn Lofton went deep to left field to give the Lady Statesmen a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
  • Alyssa Branyan got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to extend the lead to 2-0 in the sixth.
  • The Lady Choctaws tied the game on two bases loaded walks 2-2 in the top of the seventh.
  • Bailee Avants two-run double put the Lady Choctaws ahead 4-2 and a Rayne Minor RBI on an infield single made the score 5-2.

  • Lacey Coats (8-6) registered four strikeouts gave up three runs on five hits to take the loss for the Lady Statesmen.
  • Avery Sanders (5-9) gave up a run on no hits with three walks and one strikeout to earn the win for MC.
