CLEVELAND, Ms. -- The intensity level reached a near-max level at Sillers Coliseum on Thursday night as the Statesmen (6-14, 5-12 GSC) fell in a hard-fought battle against the Montevallo Falcons (9-12, 7-10). Delta State trailed by as many as 16 in the second half but was still able to hit timely shots to keep themselves in the game near the end.
Both teams had great shooting nights with Montevallo at 52.5 percent for the night and Delta State at 49.1 percent. They also shot over 40 percent from the distance with Delta State converting on 16 of their 37 three-point attempts (.432).
Four different Statesmen reached double figures in the score column on Thursday, led by
Maalik Cartwright with 22 points. Cartwright also filled out his stat card with 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal.
Kelen Dietrich hit a game-high 6 three-pointers as he scored 20 points against the Falcons, while also being credited with one board and 3 assists.
Caleb Allen and
Wyatt Bell matched each other with 11 points each and 3 three-pointers each. They also recorded 2 assists and 1 steal each.
