CLEVELAND, Ms. -- The Lady Statesmen faced off against Auburn Montgomery on Saturday. The Green and White looked to build off their 60-52 win Thursday against Montevallo.
The first quarter saw a tight contest up until the 3:14 mark where the Lady Statesmen would go cold and only score four more points for the rest of the quarter. The Warhawks would push their lead to 22-14 at the end of the first quarter.Â
The second quarter was much like the first quarter with AUM extending its lead. The Green and White would keep battling and inching closer to evening up the score before the half. The quarter would come to a close with the Lady Statesmen trailing by nine at the half.Â
The start of the second half would see the Lady Statesmen turn up their defensive intensity and slow the Warhawks offense down. The Green and White would capture the lead at the five-minute mark in the third quarter. AUM would regain the lead in the closing moments of the quarter to head into the fourth with a 52-51 lead.Â
The fourth quarter would be much of the same and see the game go back and forth between both teams. The Lady Statesmen would take the lead with two minutes left at 68-64. The Warhawks would then send the Green and White to the line hoping to save the game, but the Lady Statesmen made the most of their free throw chances en route to a 72-64 final score.
Camryn Davis earned a double-double on the night with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Alanna Smith would also contribute 16 points. Grace Watson also added 14 points and a block in the game.Â
The Lady Statesmen will travel to Alabama Huntsville next Thursday at 5:30 and then play West Alabama on Saturday at 2:00 P.M.
