Statesmen Keep Momentum Rolling With Win Over North Greenville

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- #8 Delta State's offense records another impressive night on the ground, racking up 288 rushing yards against North Greenville. The Statesmen defense allowed just 27 points against a strong NGU offense as Malik Jones recorded his fourth interception in as many games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Crusaders started the game with the ball and found the endzone seven plays after the kickoff as QB Dylan Ramirez hit Ahmari Coats for a 31-yard score. 7-0 NGU.
  • Delta State started their first drive at their own 9-yard line. It took them 13 plays to go 91 yards as Patrick Shegog called his own number for a 3-yard score. 7-7 tied.
  • NGU was forced to punt on their next drive. Delta State scored on the following 78-yard drive that included a 40-yard pass from Shegog to Nathan Howard. Shegog ended the drive with a 16-yard touchdown run. 14-7 Delta State.
  • An NGU fumble recovered by Timaje Porter gave DSU the ball at midfield. The Statesmen scored seven plays later as Kelvin Smith found the endzone for a 4-yard score. 21-7 Delta State.
  • NGU caught a break after recovering a muffed punt, but could only muster a 24-yard field goal out of the second chance. 21-10 Delta State.
  • DSU was stopped on fourth down on their next drive as North Greenville added another punt just before the end of the half. 21-13 Delta State at halftime.
  • KJ Smith scored on the first play of the second half as he carried the ball 75 yards for a Green & White score. 28-13 Delta State.
  • A Corey Watkins score kept NGU within a score on their next drive. 28-20 Delta State.
  • Shegog hit Jaylen May for a 2-yard score as he rolled out of the pocket on 3rd and goal to cap a 9-play, 75-yard drive. 35-20 Delta State.
  • NGU scored on their first drive of the fourth quarter on Watkins second TD rush of the game. 35-27 Delta State.
  • Shegog completed the hat-trick on the next DSU drive as he scored from 29 yards out to extend the DSU lead. 42-27 Delta State.
  • Malik Jones picked off Ramirez on the following drive to give DSU the ball at their own 44-yard line. Christian Malloy paid it off a few plays later with a 26-yard scoring rush. North Greenville threw another INT on their next drive as the Statesmen went to the victory formation to seal the win. 49-27 Delta State final.

  • Patrick Shegog completed 20 of his 30 pass attempts for 238 yards and a touchdown. He also carried the ball 9 times for 84 yards and three touchdowns.
  • KJ Smith carried the ball 12 times for 117 yards and two scores.
  • Christian Malloy picked up 91 yards on 13 carries with a score.
  • Nathan Howard caught 4 passes for a team-leadin 63 yards.
  • Jaylen May also caught 4 passes for 34 yards and a score.
