CLEVELAND, Miss. - Delta State's bye week provided a rest period for a Statesmen football team that is now itching to return to its winning ways. Week nine brings a heavyweight GSC matchup between two playoff hopefuls as the Statesmen travel to Carrollton, GA to take on the West Georgia Wolves. Michael Gross will have the call on the
Statesmen Sports Network. All remaining regular season Statesmen Football games will be broadcast exclusively through
FloFootball.
Delta State was forced to wait two weeks to play again after suffering their first loss of the season on November 21 against West Florida. Delta State's loss initially created a four-way tie for first place in the GSC, but a week eight Valdosta State win over West Florida leaves Delta State, Valdosta State, and West Georgia at the top with 5-1 GSC records. DSU will face West Georgia and Mississippi College to wrap up the regular season. Valdosta State travels to West Alabama this week before hosting West Georgia in the final week.
Kickoff between the Delta State Statesmen and the West Georgia Wolves is scheduled for Saturday, November 4 at 5:00 pm CDT.

SERIES NOTEBOOK: WEST GEORGIA
• This is the 38th meeting all-time between Delta State and West Georgia since 1983. It will also be the last as rival members of the GSC with the Wolves transitioning to Division 1's Atlantic Sun Conference in July 2024. The Statesmen lead the series 20-17 despite dropping the last three meetings. The home team historically has the advantage in the series and the Wolves have won the last seven meetings in Carrollton.
• Saturday's game will feature the GSC's first and fourth-ranked offenses. Delta State leads the GSC at 43.4 points and 462.0 yards per game. The Wolves rank fourth in both categories at 29.4 points and 378.8 yards per game. This game will also feature two of the GSC's best rushing attacks. Delta State leads the conference at 232.5 yards per game as West Georgia averages 209.8, good for third in the conference. West Georgia does have the GSC's top rusher on the roster in Rajaez Mosley, who is averaging 95.3 yards per game.
• West Georgia opened their season with two Division II non-conference games. The Wolves stood their ground late in week one for a 21-19 win over the South Atlantic Conference's Limestone Saints. The Wolves traveled to Texas A&M-Kingsville in week two and out-gained the Javelinas 331-212, but lost 20-17 after committing seven turnovers.
• GSC play began in week three with West Georgia traveling to Mississippi College. The Choctaws took a 35-24 lead with 10:13 left in the game, but two unanswered UWG touchdowns gave the Wolves a 38-35 win. West Georgia suffered their only GSC loss to this point in week four at West Florida, a 49-21 loss in which they were out-gained 479-305 while also committing four turnovers.
• The Wolves hosted three straight home games after a week five bye. UWG was successful in all three games, defeating West Alabama 24-6, Chowan 35-24, and North Greenville 38-14.
• West Georgia gained a few extra days of rest before hosting Delta State after playing last week's game at Shorter on Thursday, October 26. The Wolves allowed 14 points in the fourth and were forced the punt late, but the Hawks could not answer after the UWG punt was downed at the 2-yard line with just 1:13 left. West Georgia out-gained the Hawks 523-294 despite turning the ball over four times in their 41-35 win.
STREAK VS STREAK: Two impressive streaks will step onto the field on Saturday, but only one will leave intact. West Georgia has won the last seven meetings at University Stadium between UWG and Delta State, but the Statesmen are currently riding a program-best 11-game road win streak into Carrollton.
