Cleveland, Miss.-- The Delta State University Men's Soccer traveled to the Choctaws of Mississippi College this Sunday for a GSC tournament matchup. The Green and White entered the matchup as the underdog being the eighth seed in the tournament. DSU came out attacking and had the Choctaw defense confused about what to do.
Santiago Rossi scored the first goal from a set piece crossed in by
Arturo Riestra.
Malo Clement scored the second goal for DSU off a corner kick that was crossed in by
Arturo Riestra again. A minute after the second Statesmen goal captain
Eldi Seiti was given a red card on a controversial call. DSU then had to adjust their tactics due to playing a man down for the rest of the game. The Statesmen would go into the half with a 2-0 lead. The second half would see the Green and White continue to control the game while only playing with ten men. Mississippi College had a five-minute stretch where they had control of the game and scored two goals quickly to tie the game. The Statesmen would respond to the two goals by MC by scoring quickly.
Sam Wark stole the ball from the Choctaw attacker and played a beautiful pass to the birthday boy
Ryan Thistle who scored the game-winner for the Statesmen. DSU advances to the semi-final next weekend.
