CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Statesmen snapped their losing streak on Thursday night with a convincing win against the Shorter Hawks. The two teams put on nearly identical performances in the second half, but Delta State's first-half dominance proved to be the difference as they took a 34-25 lead into the break.
Delta State's Lee Cotton had the hot hand in the first half with two made three-pointers in a 12-point effort. Maalik Cartwright led all scorers with 20 points to go with 6 rebounds and 7 assists.
Kelen Dietrich hit 4 of Delta State's 11 three-pointers and finished with 12 points. Derek Moore was a point shy of another double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds.

• Delta State made nearly half of their shots as they went 50 percent (13-26) from the field in the first half and 48.3 percent (14-29) in the second half.
• Both teams were active under the goal, but Delta State claimed a slim 30-26 advantage in paint points.
• Delta State had contributors throughout the lineup with 21 points off the bench for the Green and White.
• Shorter only turned the ball over 8 times, but DSU made them pay almost every time with 12 points off those turnovers
