MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Delta State traveled to Southwest Arkansas Tuesday afternoon for a midweek game against the 9th-ranked Southern Arkansas Muleriders. The Statesmen were out-hit 10-to-4 with the lone DSU run coming off
Eric Newsom's fourth home run in the last three games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brendan McCauley picked up the first DSU hit with one away in the first, but was left on base. A leadoff walk for the Muleriders eventually scored on a sacrifice fly out to right. 1-0 SAU after 1.
- The Statesmen batters fell in order in the top of the second. The Muleriders scored four runs on three hits with a walk and an HBP as well in the inning. The runs came off an RBI single, an RBI ground out, and a 2 RBI single. 5-0 SAU after 2.
- Delta State couldn't produce a base runner in the third. Southern Arkansas matched their second inning effort with four runs on three hits. The runs in the second were scored off an RBI single and a 3 RBI double with two outs. 9-0 SAU after 3.
- Delta State fell in order in the fourth, but kept the Muleriders off the board while stranding two runners in the bottom half of the inning. Matthew Nichols picked up the second DSU hit in the fifth. The Muleriders left two in scoring position to end their half of the fifth. Both teams had a base runner in the sixth, but left the inning with nobody on. Eric Newsom hit his fourth home run in the last three games with two away in the seventh. The Muleriders fell in order in their half of the seventh. 9-1 SAU after 7.
- Delta State again went in order in the eighth. A two-out RBI single pushed the Mulerider lead back to nine, but the batter was also caught between first and second to end the inning. The Statesmen loaded the bases on a hit and two walks, but stranded the bases loaded in the ninth. 10-1 SAU final.
ON THE MOUND
- Starter Cade Whitley went 1.2 innings with five runs on four hits and two walks.
- Steven Lacey then pitched 1.0 inning with four runs allowed on three hits with a strikeout and two walks.
- Duke Jordan went 1.1 innings, allowing no runs or hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
- Andrew Morlen pitched 1.0 inning, giving up two hits.
- Jesse Homan went an inning, allowing no runs or hits and walking one.
- Cade Hodges also pitched an inning, striking out one.
- Caleb Smith gave up a run and a walk
- Trace McNabb pitched 1.0 inning, allowing one hit with one strikeout.
