HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
- The two teams only managed one base runner each over the first two innings. A one-out single put a runner on base for what became a two-run home run for UAH's Garrett Bodine. Delta State picked up two hits in the third, but stranded a runner. 2-0 UAH after 3.
- Delta State stranded the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth. Two singles and a stolen base led to the third Charger run in the top of the fifth. Jonathan Dewberry reached safely on a fielder's choice and later came around to score on an RBI single by Brett Burrell. Kirkland Trahan also scored on an RBI single from Eric Newsom after he hit his own single earlier in the inning. 3-2 UAH after 5.
- UAH used a single, wild pitch, and bunt to extend their lead in the sixth. Delta State fell in order in their half of the inning. 4-2 UAH after 6.
- DSU's defense stranded three Charger runners between the seventh and eighth innings. Jonathan Dewberry hit a leadoff homer in the seventh to cut the UAH lead to one. Newsom led the eighth with a single and had Rodney Hibler check in to run for him. A groundout moved Hibler to second and a wild pitch put him at third. Matthew Nichols scored Hibler on a sac fly to left. Taylor Woodcock then singled, advanced to second after a steal, and third after a wild pitch, but was stranded at third. Tied 4-4 after 9.
- Both teams started their half of the tenth innings with a runner at second base. A wild pitch moved UAH's runner to third and an intentional walk put runners at the corners with one out. A second walk loaded the bases, and a wild pitch moved everyone up a base and scored the first run. An RBI single scored the sixth UAH run of the game before a double play ended the scoring threat. Delta State's runner, Hibler, scored from third on a sac fly for the second out of the inning, but a groundout ended the inning and the game. 6-5 UAH Final.
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
- UAH scored three runs with an RBI double, an RBI single, and a fielder's choice in the first. Jonathan Dewberry led the first with a single and later scored on a bases-loaded single by Woodcock. 3-1 UAH after 1.
- Both teams stranded a runner in the second inning. Four hits and an error helped the Chargers plate four more runs as Delta State fell in order in the third inning. 7-1 UAH after 3.
- Delta State stranded a runner after a walk to Nichols in the fourth. Two more UAH runs came across in the fifth after two hits, a walk, and a wild pitch. DSU picked up a double from Trahan in the fifth. 9-1 UAH after 5.
- Both teams fell in order in the sixth, and UAH would do the same in the seventh. Carson Clowers hit a solo home run with one away in the bottom of the seventh. Dewberry and McCauley singled to put runners at the corners before a Trahan double would score Dewberry. A wild pitch would score McCauley, but a flyout would end the DSU scoring threat and the game. 9-4 UAH Final.
