CLEVELAND, Miss. – Delta State fell in both of Saturday's home GSC games on Saturday afternoon after Friday's game was cancelled. The Statesmen clawed their way back from a five-run deficit in game one, but a two run home run in the ninth would give the edge to the Hawks.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
- The Hawks fell in order as Jonathan Dewberry picked up the first hit of the game in the DSU half of the first. Shorter picked up the first two runs of the game after a hit, a walk, and a two-out error. Matthew Nichols picked up the second DSU hit in the second. 2-0 Shorter after 2.
- Shorter hit a two-run home run and a two-out RBI single to extend their lead in the third. Carson Clowers led the DSU half of the third with a single and then stole second. A groundout moved Clowers to third where he scored on an RBI double from Brendan McCauley. He also scored in the next plate appearance, an RBI single by Kirkland Trahan. 5-2 Shorter after 3.
- The Hawks fell in order in the fourth as the Statesmen stranded one. Shorter stranded a runner in the fifth. Dewberry led the fifth with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. McCauley singled to put runners at the corners with no outs. A Trahan double scored Dewberry and put two in scoring position. A sac fly by Brett Burrell would score McCauley, bringing DSU within a run. 5-4 Shorter after 5.
- Shorter picked up a hit in the sixth, but the runner was caught in a steal attempt by Nichols to end the inning. Nichols then led the DSU half of the inning with a single and moved to second on a fielder's choice as Noah Thigpen reached safely. A Clowers groundout moved the pair into scoring position. A Dewberry groundout scored Nichols and a Trahan RBI single plated Thigpen as the Statesmen took the lead from five down. 6-5 Delta State after 6.
- Shorter fell in order and the Statesmen left two on in the seventh. The Hawks left one on in the eighth as Delta State went in order. A two-out walk in the ninth put the tying run on for the Hawks and a two-run home run would give them the lead. Burrell hit a one-out double and would be joined on-base by Brett Cobb after a walk, but they would be left on after a pair of flyouts. 7-6 Shorter Final.
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
- Two singles and a double plated the first Shorter run in the top of the first. Trahan hit a solo homer to right-center to tie the game in the bottom of the first. Tied 1-1 after 1.
- Three singles and a double scored three more Shorter runs in the top of the second. Cobb singled, but was left on base in the bottom of the second. 4-1 Shorter after 2.
- The Hawks stranded a runner in the third and the Statesmen fell in order. Shorter went in order in the fourth as Kameron Koch struck out two. Delta State had a runner in the fourth, but a double play ended the threat. Cobb singled in the fifth and Nichols drew a walk, but both were left on base. A leadoff double, two singles, and a sac fly plated two more Hawk runs in the sixth as the Statesmen went in order. Shorter stranded one in the seventh. Taylor Woodcock singled and Thigpen drew a walk in the seventh, but the pair were left on base as the Hawk picked up the game two win. 6-1 Shorter Final.
ON THE MOUND
- Game one starter Drake Fontenot pitched 7.0 innings. He allowed five runs on seven hits with five strikeouts to only one walk.
- Logan Cromer relieved Fontenot and pitched the eighth inning, allowing one hit.
- Josh Hill (L, 1-2) started the ninth in game one, giving up two runs on one hit with a strikeout and a walk.
- Noah Magee finished game one, facing two batters and allowing a walk.
- Game two starter Harrison Haley (L, 2-4) pitched 2.0 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.
- Kameron Koch pitched the final 5.0 innings of game two, giving up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts to two walks.

Delta State returns to Ferriss Field this Tuesday (4/11) for a 5:00 pm midweek contest against Arkansas-Monticello. The Statesmen resume GSC play next Friday (4/14) on the road at Montevallo.
