HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • West Alabama started with the ball and was forced to punt following a three-and-out. Delta State was able to move the ball to the UWA 33, but was faced with a fourth-down situation. Shegog kept it himself and found a lane all the way to the endzone for the first DSU score. Nick Herber's PAT was good. 7-0 Delta State.
  • Three more punts gave DSU the ball at their own 48-yard line. Delta State capped their five-play, 52-yard drive with an immaculate grab by Jaylen Green over a UWA defender for a 38-yard score. 14-0 Delta State.
  • Delta State scored three plays later as Marlon Windham picked off a Tiger pass attempt and took it to the house for a 33-yard score. 21-0 Delta State after the first quarter.
  • The Statesmen got the ball at the UWA 33-yard line to start their first drive of the second quarter. Quarterback Austin Davidson finished the drive with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Calvin Lockett. 28-0 Delta State.
  • Delta State punted on their next drive, but a beautiful 58-yard punt by Parker Burleson put the Tigers inside their own 1-yard line. Marlon Windham came up big for the Statesmen with a TFL in the endzone for a safety. Robbie Evans then ran back the free kick 51 yards for another Delta State touchdown. 37-0 Delta State.
  • West Alabama ended an 11-play, 49-yard drive with a 43-yard field goal to score before the end of the half. 37-3 Delta State after the second quarter.
  • Delta State had a 7-play, 20-yard drive to start the third quarter that ended with a 38-yard field goal make by Herber. 40-3 Delta State.
