CLEVELAND, MISS. – The Delta State University men's soccer program (3-3-5, 2-2-2 GSC) trailed 1-0 for 78 minutes before
Ryan Thistle and
Santiago Rossi would score two goals in six minutes to beat the University of Alabama at Huntsville 2-1. Friday (Oct. 18) afternoon at Delta Field.
The Chargers would take an early 1-0 lead at the 19-minute mark on as their top scorer Oli Orzechowski would get a deflection into the goal from Donovan Pruitte.
The Statesmen attack would seek opportunities as they out shot the Chargers 12-8. The Statesmen defense kept keeper
Mason Baglio bored in the second half as they would only allow two shots none being on goal.
At the 78-minute mark, Thistle would add the equalizing goal with volley off the deflection of a UAH defender into the back of the net.
The Statesmen would continue to attack in the final ten minutes as an
Alfie Lally free kick would deflect off of the keeper into the left foot of Rossi, sending the ball into the top of the net to put the Statesmen ahead with 5:22 remaining in the game.
The Statesmen defense would see a corner with just under three minutes to go but would stay strong as they hold on to grab three points.
Delta State will be back at Delta Field this Sunday (Oct. 20) as they host the Tigers from the University of West Alabama. That match will approximately kick off at 3:30 PM.
