Statesmen Fall in High Scoring Affair with Tigers

CLEVELAND, MISS. – The Delta State University men's soccer program (3-4-5, 2-3-2 GSC) fell to the Tigers from West Alabama 4-2 Sunday (Oct. 20) afternoon from Delta Field.
 
The Statesmen would score an early goal at the six-minute mark as Hardy Lewis would get a deflection in front of the net on a corner off as a Chad Hudson shot would ricochet off a few Statesmen to take a 1-0 lead. The Statesmen would put seven shots on goal to the Tigers six throughout the match.
 
The Tigers would score two unanswered goals from David Nunez to take a 2-1 lead into the break.
 
Coming out of the half, the Tigers would extend their lead to 3-1 on a cross into the box that would find the back of the net.
 
The Statesmen would attempt come back into the match as James Lynch scored his second goal of the match with just under four minutes to go to cut the deficit to 3-2.
 
But a minute later the Tigers would score a goal to put the finishing mark on the match to make it 4-2.
 
Delta State will make their final road trip of the regular season next Friday (Oct. 25) as they head to Cleveland, Tenn., to take on the Flames from Lee University. That match will start at 7:30 p.m. (CDT).
