Lady Statesmen Set for Mid-Week Road Trip to Arkadelphia to Take on the Reddies

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Women's Basketball team (2-0, 0-0 GSC) will hit the road, tomorrow afternoon as they will face the Reddies from Henderson State University (0-2, 0-0 GAC).
 
The game will tip off at 5:30 in the Duke Wells Center on the campus of Henderson State. Follow the game on the Statesmen Sports Network as The Voice of the Statesmen, Michael Gross will be on the call.
 
Last Season these two met at Walter Sillers Coliseum where it ended in a 106-98 overtime shootout in favor of Henderson State. Current Lady Statesmen Olivia Allen scored 22 points for Henderson State, while Wakiryah Daniels had a career afternoon scoring 30 points, as she shot 13-19 from the field.
 
Scouting the Lady Statesmen
  • The Lady Statesmen are off to a 2-0 start after taking two games in the GSC/SIAC crossover. The Lady Statesmen topped Lane College 68-63 Friday afternoon in Clinton, Miss., then followed it up with a 75-42 home opening win against LeMoyne-Owen Saturday Night. Freshman guard Daniela Gintere was named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week.
  • Against the Dragons, Gintere all Lady Statesmen scorers with 10 points off the bench. The Lady Statesmen had five players who scored seven or more points in the contest. Grace Watson had seven points and 10 rebounds in the win. Martyna Czescik attacked the offensive glass, grabbing a team high five offensive rebounds.
  • In the Saturday night win against LeMoyne-Owen, the Lady Statesmen caught fire in the second quarter, shooting 80% from beyond the arch. Gintere scored 10 for the second straight game. In the second quarter, the Lady Statesmen would have threes from Madi Kate Vuncannon, Gintere, Brilynn Findley, Olivia Allen, and Wakiryah Daniels. Grace Watson would add her first double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.
Scouting the Reddies
  • The Henderson State Women's Basketball program is currently 0-2 after facing two top tier MIAA opponents in Central Missouri and Missouri Southern last weekend in the GAC/MIAA Conference Challenge at Central Missouri. The Reddies lost 76-49 against Central Missouri Friday morning. To finish the weekend, the Reddies lost to Missouri Southern 75-47.
  • Jadah Pickens is entering tomorrow afternoon's game as the leading scorer for the Reddies. The Conway, Ark., native is averaging 12.5 points per game and pulling down 4.5 rebounds per game and 2.0 assists per game. Against Missouri Southern, Pickens scored 15 points and dished out three assists.
  • Against Central Missouri, junior guard Brynlee led all Henderson State scorers with 11 points, knocking down three shots from beyond the arch. Huggins is the other Reddie who averages double figures going into tomorrow's matchup.
