Women's Basketball Drops Home Game to Arkansas Tech 58-43

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University women's basketball team (2-2, 0-0 GSC) fell at home to the Golden Suns from Arkansas Tech (2-1, 0-0 GAC) 58-43 Tuesday afternoon from Walter Sillers Coliseum.
 
The Statesmen would get double-digit scoring out of freshman guard Brilynn Findley and senior guard Wakiryah Daniels. Both led the Lady Statesmen with 12 points on the evening.
 
Findley would start the game off with the first field goal of the game on a high ball screen from Grace Watson, as she would bank in a left-handed layup while drawing a foul.
 
The Lady Statesmen would pull out to a 7-2 lead from buckets from Martyna Czescik and a three ball from Daniels. Daniels shot 30% from beyond the arch throughout the game.
 
The Golden Suns would march back and take a 12-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
Arkansas Tech would go on an 18-2 run to start the second quarter as they would pull away from the Green and White, in the first five minutes. In the final minutes of the first half, Delta State would go on a 9-5 run as they would trail 34-20 at the half.
 
Findley would start a 4-0 run of her own with a reverse layup and a contested layup to start the second half.
 
Midway through the third, the Lady Statesmen would cut the deficit to single digits, trailing 40-33 with 4:48 to go. The Golden Suns would answer with a 5-0 run in the final three minutes to take a 45-33 lead into the final frame.
 
In the final frame, Arkansas Tech would maintain a 15 point lead as they would hold on to a 58-43 lead.
 
Delta State will hit the road this upcoming Friday, Nov. 22, as they will travel to Magnolia, Ark., to take on the Muleriders from Southern Arkansas University. Friday's game will tip off at 5:00 p.m., (CDT).
